Canon and Fujitsu do not report FADGI scanning speeds, Kodak does. Kodak software also allows for the scanner to run in "non-FADGI" mode, which generates faster scanning speeds. The other brands cannot scan in non-FADGI mode, they will have to be dedicated to FADGI scanning only.

Notes on FADGI Compliant Scanners

Below are some notes on FADGI compliant scanners and their operations.

Dedicated scanner

The drivers for the scanner have to be calibrated to output in FADGI compliant image mode. That means either 300 or 400 dpi uncompressed tiff file format. The scanner must therefore be dedicated to FADGI scanning projects only.

Fortunately, the Kodak software allows for the scanner to be used in either FADGI or Non-FADGI mode. This allows the scanner to be used for other non-FADGI related projects. (Only Kodak models).

On-site Installation & Training

Onsite Installation should include Installation, Calibration, Testing, Certification and Training

Not every brand includes Training or Certification. The scanner must be certified with the target to generate images. That Certification Report is required with each batch of scans. The software generates the Report. Neither Canon nor Fujitsu have that capability, you must purchase FADGI Certification software and its target to generate reports.

Calibration/Testing/Certification

The scanner must be calibrated to generate FADGI compliant images. There are softwares and calibration targets which are used to generate certification reports on the scanner.

Kodak includes the software and the targets to calibrate and generate the certification reports on the scanner. Fujitsu includes the calibration target, but not the testing software. Canon does not include either. Their technician will email you a Certification report on your scanner after the onsite installation is complete.

Follow-up Service

All brands include post installation follow-up Preventive Maintenance visits

Canon gives 1 PM on the Dr-G2000 series, Fujitsu gives 2 PM's on the FI-7600 and FI-7700 models, and 3 on the FI-7800 and FI-7900 models. Kodak gives 4 PM'S on their FADGI Scanners.

Only Kodak PM's will allow for recertification testing on their FADGI scanners.

Your company can purchase Golden Thread Software and the Golden Thread Certification Target and generate your own reports. You can use the software and target to validate the FADGI compliance. The software can be purchased for $3150, here. You'll just need to learn how to use the software and proceed with the calibration testing and certification.
